SNAP UPDATE

Updated Oct 31, 2025

A Message from Jason Reed, CEO of United Food Bank

With national attention on the government shutdown and SNAP benefits, thousands of Arizona families are facing uncertainty about how they will afford groceries in the weeks ahead. It remains unclear how federal actions will affect SNAP benefits in November and beyond, leaving many families anxious about what comes next.

United Food Bank has been serving Arizona for more than 40 years. We have faced challenges before, and we are prepared to meet this one. Every day, we continue to deliver food to more than 120 partner pantries and organizations across the East Valley and eastern Arizona.

We are also expanding our reach to help more families directly. Next week, we will host two mobile food distributions, one in Pinal County (Florence) and one in Navajo County (Show Low). Details can be found here.

The State of Arizona has stepped in with emergency funding to help food banks purchase more food. We are deeply grateful for this support, and United Food Bank will receive a portion of these funds. This funding will make a real difference, but it is still far less than the scale of what SNAP provides each month.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, we have already been able to make additional food purchases this week. That support is helping us respond faster and serve more people, but the need continues to grow.

In September, United Food Bank provided food to more than 135,000 Arizonans, a 21% increase over the same month last year, before the shutdown. Our shelves are stocked for now, but with more families turning to us every day, the food we have will go quickly.

Community support remains critical to keep shelves stocked, trucks filled, and food moving to families who need it most.
