In times of uncertainty, our natural inclination is to seek solid ground. United Food Bank has been able to provide that solid ground to thousands of families every week during the pandemic and economic crisis of 2020.
At United Food Bank, we are certain of several things about the rest of 2020. Times will be tough. People will be unemployed. People will be sick. However, United Food Bank is prepared to continue to serve Arizonans by initiating the following plan:
1. Stocking up on food supplies
Collaborating with the Arizona Department of Economic Security, United States Department of Agriculture, City of Mesa, FEMA and private donors to secure our food supply.
This collaboration has spent more than $11M procuring food provisions through the end of 2020 and into 2021 to ensure we have a steady supply chain for the families we serve and those we will yet serve this year and next.
About 30% of the food United Food Bank distributes is fresh fruits and vegetables.
2. Making improvements and upgrades
United Food Bank is investing in our people, processes and fleet to ensure we can safely receive, store, sort and deliver food to our network of over 220 agencies and programs.
3. Staying safe and healthy
United Food Bank has adjusted processes in our volunteer warehouse to ensure a healthy environment for our employees and volunteers to be able to receive, sort, and pack food for the families that need it.
Our volunteers and staff wear masks, gloves, and practice social distancing.
With the first half of 2020 finally behind us, we are looking forward to serving the families of the east valley and eastern Arizona for the rest of the year. Now, in order to make this happen, we still need you!
