“Everybody can be great because anybody can serve. . . You only need a heart full of grace.” – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
A few months before his death, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave a sermon sharing this advice on greatness, adding that he hoped to be remembered not for awards or accolades, but for serving others.
“I want you to be able to say that day that I did try to feed the hungry . . . I want you to say that I tried to love and serve humanity.”
In honor of Dr. King and this MLK Day of Service, here are a few ways you can be great by serving the hungry right in your community:
Volunteer
One of the most rewarding ways to serve your community is by donating your time. At United Food Bank, we regularly need volunteers to help sort and pack food donations, build emergency food bags, and help give food to families.
Volunteering with United Food Bank is a fun way to spend some time with your friends, family, your church or other groups. And kids ages 5 and up can participate in many of our volunteer events.
