Mesa Partners with United Food Bank for Great Turkey Tuesday
The goal is to collect 2,000 turkeys on Nov. 15 for families in need
(Mesa, AZ) – The City of Mesa is partnering with United Food Bank for the Great Turkey Tuesday, Nov. 15 at the Mesa Convention Center, 263 N Center St., from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. The goal is to collect 2,000 turkeys and $20,000 in cash and online donations to help the less fortunate this holiday season.
“The City of Mesa’s partnership with United Food Bank is instrumental in getting food to those in need,” said Mayor John Giles. “The Turkey Tuesday event is a great way to kick off the season of gratitude, and I have no doubt Mesa residents and businesses will extend their generosity in helping to reach this year’s collection goal.”
The public can drop off frozen turkey donations to the United Food Bank truck at the convention center. In addition to turkeys, City employees will also be collecting canned goods and cash donations to help benefit United Food Bank. Monetary donations can be made online at www.feedaz.org.
Last year, the event collected 1,800 turkeys and $11,800 in cash donations thanks to the generous contributions of residents, business owners, contractors, City of Mesa departments, Councilmembers and many others.
“We rely on this food drive every year to help fill our freezers with turkeys in time for our holiday distributions. We are so grateful to the City of Mesa and their support, helping us provide holiday meals & hope to families in need.” says Chariti Stern, United Food Bank Chief Programs Officer.
For the 2nd year in a row, Desert Financial will be joining the fun and matching donations, up to $50,000! Bring on the turkeys and donate what you can for twice the impact with this generous match from Desert Financial.
This is the 14th Annual Great Turkey Tuesday collaboration between the City of Mesa and United Food Bank.
