Hunger Hiding in the White Mountains

On a recent visit to United Food Bank’s partner agencies in the White Mountains, staff learned more about the need that has been hiding in towns like Pinetop-Lakeside and Whiteriver (home of the White Mountain Apache Tribe). In Pinetop-Lakeside alone, UFB has seven partner agencies, with some like The Love Kitchen working to meet the need by providing an average of 429 food boxes and 1,666 meals each month. The town is filled with so many quaint cabins, small shops, and mom and pop restaurants that it is difficult to imagine that so many of its residents are struggling.
