United Food Bank recognized as Agency of the Year by
Mesa United Way
Arizona-May 17, 2012– United Food Bank was named Agency of the Year on Wednesday, May 16th by Mesa United Way.
“United Food Bank is an incredible partner that distributed more than 18 million pounds of food last year to more than 140 community organizations [in Mesa], including food pantries and direct service providers, such as Paz de Cristo and senior centers. They are the designated food bank for individuals in need throughout the East Valley, Pinal, Gila, and parts of Navajo and Apache Counties,” said Linda Haskell, Resource Development Director at Mesa United Way.
United Food Bank receives funding from Mesa United Way every year to help support their many programs in Mesa. Many people might not realize it, but United Food Bank got its name back in 1983 because it was funded by the United Ways in the area who recognized that there was a huge need in the East Valley for food services.
“We are so very proud of our long standing relationship with United Food Bank and it was with such pleasure that we were able to present United Food Bank with the agency of the year award!” said Haskell.
The award was given to United Food Bank for their efforts in making time to do agency fairs and presentations for Mesa United Way despite their busy schedules, in addition to running their own workplace employee giving campaign.
“We were completely surprised and honored to receive this award,” said Bob Evans, President and CEO at United Food Bank, “Mesa United Way is so good to us and we truly value our relationship with them as we work together to provide essential services to those in need in Mesa.”
