UFB Mourns Jon Flora
On Friday Sept. 13, United Food Bank was extremely saddened to hear about the passing of Jon Flora, president of Fry’s Food Stores of Arizona. Jon was an incredibly thoughtful and giving man, who had a real passion for fighting hunger. Over the years, he acted

as a strong advocate of Arizona food banks, and worked closely with United Food Bank.

Jon helped form a great a partnership between Fry’s Food Stores and UFB many years ago, and since then we have been working together to accomplish our mission of ending hunger in Arizona.

Fry’s has supported UFB in every way from monetary and food donations to event sponsorships. In just the last year, the company has generously sponsored our “Friends Breakfast” and is the title sponsor of our November 16, 2013 “An Evening with the Stars” premier event. Additionally, Fry’s teams up with ABC 15 every year for their Alphabet Soup Food drive, in which they collect food and funds for Arizona food banks at their stores. the grocery chain also donates their East Valley stores’ leftover food products to UFB through our Grocery Store Rescue program. All of these efforts provide thousands of meals to the hungry every year.

“With the passing of Jon Flora, United Food Bank and all Arizona food banks lost a dear friend and champion. He will be sorely missed not only by those of us lucky enough to have known and worked with him, but also by the many whose lives he touched every day,” said UFB CEO, Bob Evans.

Jon leaves behind an incredible legacy with his accomplished career at Fry’s, the lasting impact he made on his employees and his extensive philanthropy work. He will be missed by many, including those of us at United Food Bank. We will always remember our dear friend.

Scare Away Hunger
This October, we want to scare away hunger and we have two fun ways for you and your kids to help! When its time to go trick or treating for Halloween, encourage your kids to also ask neighbors to help feed the hungry. Ninety-eight cents of every dollar goes toward providing food for Arizona families. That means with just $1, we can provide the food for five meals. On our Kids Club page, you can find a fun, printable sign that your child can attached to their pillowcases or jack-o-lanterns. Want another idea? Start a “Scare Away Hunger” Halloween food drive at your child’s school! It’s easy and a great way to help make a difference! Learn more here
