Kids Club is Back!
United Food Bank is excited to announce that our Kids Club is back! This fun and interactive group introduces children to the issue of hunger and gives them opportunities to help their community.
We have a brand new page on our website with a bunch of activities for kids! They can participate in our art contest; send in their food art; write about helping others; join our Birthday Club; and learn about how other kids are helping fight hunger. There are also fun activities for parents! You can find yummy, healthy recipes; read about nutrition information; send in photos of your kids volunteering; pin to our Pinterest board; and even blog!
Looking for fun events the whole family can participate in? Help us fight hunger by joining us for our PB&J Drive, Hunger Action month and our Family Volunteer Day!
Christmas in July
Now that summer is here it is easy to find oneself daydreaming about Christmastime. Air conditioning units are turned up, freezers are stocked with frozen treats and many weekends are spent watching “Christmas in July” movie marathons. However, some are putting their focus back on giving to others to make it feel like the holidays again.
This month, East Valley Chambers of Commerce are competing to collect the most food and funds for our annual Christmas in July Food Drive. Over 100 businesses within the Chandler, Mesa, and Tempe Chambers are calling on their employees and customers to help provide meals for Arizona children in need. Summertime is especially challenging for many, who normally rely on free or reduced meals during the school year. Our Christmas in July Food Drive helps fill that void.
Last year, over 100,200 pounds of food was collected during the drive to provide more than 77,100 meals. The winner of the Chamber Challenge was Tempe, who collected 45,076 pounds of food. Among the Individual Corporate Awards, first place for most pounds per employee went to Super Cash of Mesa (374 pounds each), and first place for most meals provided went to First Solar (20,200 meals).
The goal is to beat last year’s record of 100,200 pounds. If you would like to help the food drive, contact the Chandler, Mesa, or Tempe Chamber to find a participating business near you!
Throughout the month of July, kids can go to local, kid-friendly businesses we’ve partnered with and drop-off a jar of peanut butter and a jar of jelly. Every jar will go to help hungry kids and their families! Kids who bring in pb&j will automatically be enrolled in our Kids Club, get a fun certificate, and get some great discounts! Learn more…
