Thank You Volunteers!
It’s time to shine a spotlight on the hunger heroes behind the scenes at United Food Bank, celebrating Volunteer Appreciation Month! United Food Bank partners with over 120 agencies across eastern Arizona, increasing food security among these different communities. But behind the shelves of canned goods and the stacks of cereal boxes are the dedicated volunteers who make it all possible.
Week after week, rain or shine, volunteers tirelessly pack thousands of emergency food bags for the agencies that take part in the emergency food assistance program. Their efforts ensure that families facing hard times have access to essential sustenance when they need it most. It’s not just about packing bags; it’s about packing hope and compassion into each one.
“It’s always so fun, and it’s a great thing to do to make memories with your family while having an impact,” says Annie, who volunteers with her kids around the community.
But their work doesn’t stop there. Volunteers are the backbone of the food bank’s operations, sorting through the donations that pour in from food drives. They meticulously inspect, organize, and prepare these donations, ensuring that every item reaches those who need it with care and efficiency.
Outside the walls of United Food Bank, volunteers also play a crucial role in maintaining the garden surrounding the volunteer center. Amidst the vibrant colors of blooming flowers and the lush greenery, these volunteers nurture a space of tranquility and beauty. It’s a testament to their dedication not just to feeding the hungry, but to fostering a sense of community, learning, and well-being.
What’s truly remarkable about United Food Bank is its commitment to inclusivity. Volunteers of all abilities are welcomed with open arms, with opportunities tailored to accommodate diverse needs. From seasoned volunteer leaders to eager youngsters as young as five years old, everyone has a role to play in the fight against hunger.
“My favorite part is the trick-or-treating part, getting the cans from people to put them in my bag, and passing them out to people, too,” shares eight-year old Layla, a frequent volunteer.
Beyond their regular duties, United Food Bank volunteers are also active participants in a variety of community events. Whether it’s lending a hand at the oneLess car show, rallying support at the Stamp Out Hunger event, or taking part in the Summer of a Million Meals Telethons, these volunteers are always ready to step up and make a difference.
United Food Bank welcomes a variety of volunteers, from one-timers, to large groups, to frequent volunteers and volunteer leaders. As we take a moment to celebrate Volunteer Appreciation Month, the staff at United Food Bank extend their heartfelt gratitude to the volunteers. Their selfless dedication and tireless efforts embody the spirit of community and compassion, reminding everyone that together, we can create a world where no one goes hungry.
