Fast cars, fun and a food drive!
oneLess Car Show Raises $8,000 to Help Feed Neighbors
It was a beautiful, sunny Saturday when lots of super slick cars, the kind that look fast even parked, gathered for a day when the car community unites to show off hot wheels, to have fun with like-minded friends and support the mission of United Food Bank.
United Food Bank, OneAuto Movement and RadorDie teamed up to host the sixth annual oneLess Car Show and Food Drive this past Veteran’s Day at United Food Bank’s volunteer center in Mesa.
“Our communities never cease to amaze me. Events like this bring people together who have a shared passion for cars, but who also share a desire to help feed their neighbors,” says Jason Reed, President and CEO of United Food Bank.
Folks from all over the Valley came to see the spectacle of fantastic, sleek autos in red, blue, yellow, and army green, while also dropping off canned goods and other non-perishable foods, turkeys and cash donations. The sounds of live music filled the air, mixing with lots of car talk as refreshments and camaraderie were on display right alongside the hot rods.
Teams representing different cars at the show volunteered to build and pack emergency food bags that will be shared with United Food Bank’s 150 partner agencies throughout five counties in Arizona.
This year’s oneLess Car Show will help provide more than 41,000 meals to Mesa residents by:
- Donating over 1,200 lbs. of food
- Building over 2,200 emergency food bags
- And raising over $8,000 in cash donations
“This event began with a dream to make one less person hungry and has since turned into the oneLess Car Show. It goes to show you with great people in your community, dedicated volunteers and a really hard-working staff, that together we truly are making sure all our neighbors have access to healthy foods,” says Grace Astor, Director of Philanthropy at United Food Bank.
