It is an honor to join you this year as United Food Bank remains determined to end hunger in the Eastern Valley and in Eastern Arizona. Although the food bank distributed over 22 million pounds and served over 888,000 Arizonans last year alone, we still do not have enough feed all those we serve in Arizona.
To realize our dream of ending hunger for five counties in our beautiful state, we need your help. Help can be financial support of course, but help can come in many different forms, whether by joining us a volunteer, spreading the word about what we do, or joining us as a partner.
We must work harder than ever to extinguish food insecurity for the millions of Arizonans who are struggling to put food on the table. Of most concern is the number of Arizonans living in poverty, and unfortunately both the poverty and food insecurity rate is higher in Arizona than the national average. One of every four Arizonans is experiencing food insecurity, which is worse than the one in five rate for Americans. Additionally, Arizona has one of the worst childhood hunger rates in the nation. Almost a third of Arizonan children do not have enough to eat. All Arizona children should have the nutritional assistance they need to develop their full health and potential, and our state’s future depends upon their success.
So please keep us in mind and we would be delighted if you call, write, email, or visit us at the food bank, whether online through our social media pages or by volunteering for our next event. Together we can nourish Arizona, and every day matters. After all, time is food, and any help that you can offer, whether large or small, will definitely make a difference to the many Arizonans who thank you.
