ASU4Food’s “Fill the FLASH” Food Drive

Arizona-March 20, 2012- On Thursday, March 29th between 8 AM and 4 PM, ASU4Food will hold their annual “Fill the FLASH” food drive at Arizona State University, benefitting United Food Bank and St. Mary’s Food Bank. ASU4Food is a student-run organization whose main goal is to raise both awareness and donations for the growing hunger problem in the state of Arizona.

The public is invited to come out and join ASU’s students, faculty, and staff in the food drive by helping to fill one of ASU’s FLASH buses with food for the hungry.

A FLASH bus will be at the ASU’s Tempe campus parked on Orange Mall, east of the Memorial Union. Zip cars will also be placed at ASU Lot 59 and at the University Services Building. Food drive boxes will also be placed in the Polytechnic and West campus Parking and Transit Services offices that day, offering additional places to give.

All donation drop-off points can accept nonperishable food, cash or check donations.

This food drive comes at a great time, as nonprofits like United Food Bank see a drop in donations around spring and summertime. “Lots of folks give around the holidays and we are thrilled to have the help that time of year,” said Bob Evans, President and CEO at United Food Bank, “but the fact of the matter is, hunger doesn’t end when the holidays are over. People are struggling year-round and we need all the help we can get.”

This event was held for the first time last year and raised over $500 and 1,332 pounds of food- but the students of ASU4Food are aiming to raise much more this year by extending the invitation to help beyond ASU and it’s students, faculty, and staff.
