Gobble Gobble – it’s Turkey Time!

Arizona – October 11, 2011 – United Food Bank is asking the community for help to feed tens of thousands of people in need this holiday season. Donations of turkeys, other holiday food and cash are desperately needed.

“We did not come close to meeting the demand we had last year,” said Bob Evans, United Food Bank President and CEO. “We’re hoping to improve that this year and we’re stepping up our efforts to make it easier for people to make a donation.”

United Food Bank will extend its hours for incoming donations at their facility at 245 S Nina Drive in Mesa on the following days for anyone to make a donation of a frozen turkey, other traditional holiday food (such as canned vegetables, boxed stuffing or packaged mashed potatoes) or cash donations.

Sat., Nov. 12 from 8 a.m. – noon

Mon. – Fri., Nov. 14 – 18 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Sat., Nov.19 from 8 a.m. – noon

Mon. – Wed., Nov. 21 – 23 from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Additionally, people can bring donations to the Dana Park shopping center (Val Vista and Baseline) on November 12 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. where a large refrigerated truck will be on hand to collect the donations.

For offices, school groups, clubs and retail locations that want to get in on the action to host their own food drive to collect money and non-perishable items, United Food Bank has published a list of ideas for contests and “gobble grams” to give to people that make a donation. All information and downloadable forms can be found at www.unitedfoodbank.org.

More than one-third of the population in Arizona is in United Food Bank’s service area including the entire East Valley and much of Eastern Arizona.
